The IAM Union Scholarship Competition is accepting applications for 2026 high school graduates and current union members seeking continuing education, offering both four-year college and two-year vocational-technical scholarships, including the Roman A. Mayfield award for exceptional community service.
The program, established in 1960, awarded sixteen scholarships worth $64,000 in 2024-2025 from over 400 applications, funded through voluntary local contributions of 50 cents per member annually and fundraising efforts.
Applications are accepted online at scholarship.goiam.org from October 1, 2025 through February 6, 2026, with winners announced in the May IMAIL publication. Local officers are encouraged to thoroughly review eligibility requirements and actively promote the program through bulletin boards, meetings, and steward communications to prevent members from missing the opportunity, with questions directed to the Scholarship Department at 301-967-4708.
